Getting Your Ideas Built: Architectural Process 101

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 @ 5PM - 7PM, Novo Construction, 1460 O'Brien Drive, Menlo Park, CA, 94025

Please join ULI Silicon Valley for a joint Peer to Peer Workshop with the Urban Land Institute and the AIA Santa Clara Valley. Members will be treated to a presentation from two Young Leader architects at this interactive and fun workshop. Attendees can look forward to walking away with intimate knowledge of the architectural process, fee structures, and drawing types. Throughout the evening, the speakers will share personal stories regarding challenges they have faced and problems to avoid in each phase of development. Besides learning about another dynamic corner of the real estate market, the event will be a great opportunity to meet other Young Leaders both before and after the presentation.

Peer to Peer Workshops are structured as small educational sessions with attendance capped to facilitate an interactive classroom-like experience. Unlike other courses, these workshops are taught from the perspective of someone who remembers ‘what it’s like not to know’, with the stated intention of helping fellow YLGers better understand different segments of the real estate industry so that they may further strengthen their understanding of how our dynamic business functions.

From Entitlements to Valuation, from Negotiating Leases to Public Speaking, we’ll teach you everything from the ‘basics’ to the ‘tricks of the trade’. Peer to Peer Workshops will help their participants be better rounded real estate professionals resulting in enhanced professional knowledge and personal skills.

Britt Lindberg, AIA, LEED AP, Project Architect, Gensler
Adam Mayberry, Designer, Barry Swenson Builder Architectural

YLG Presents: Venture in the Vineyards 2013

Sunday, April 28 @ 8AM - 7PM, Pick up/drop off at Ferry Building, 1 Ferry Building, San Francisco, CA, 94111

It’s that time of the year! For this year’s most anticipated YLG event, we will spend the day meeting and networking with your fellow YLG members while learning the art of wine blending, touring one of the most fascinating new re-development sites in Sonoma County, and of course, drinking wine.

For the first stop on the tour, we will visit Sebastiani Winery in Sonoma where we will learn proper wine blending techniques from Stuart Ake of the Wine Foundry. Afterwards, we will break up into groups of 6 or 7 and to blend our own wines. Maintaining a competitive spirit, we will have a blind tasting at the end of the session, in which three judges will determine which team blended the best wine. Following the blending session, a catered lunch from Basque Café will be served on the premises of Sebastani.

After lunch, we will travel to Sebastopol to tour Barlow, a recently-opened, 12.5-acre commercial complex built on the site of a historic apple cannery. All tenants in The Barlow are local artisans—winemakers, welders, brew masters—who either produce their products at The Barlow or within a 10-mile radius of the property. As part of the tour, Young Leaders will be given a behind-the-scenes tour led by the development team in which we will learn the challenges of creating a large-scale development in small town Sebastopol, and will also meet with a few of the new tenants. The day will conclude with a hosted wine reception paired with food.

We look forward to having you join us; your wine glass awaits you!

Seating is limited to the first 54 registrants, and is capped by bus capacity. This event is open to ULI Young Leader Group members and non-members only. Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, so register early! The deadline to register is Thursday, April 25, 2013.
