Applications for the 2012-2013 UPC Board now available!

posted May 1, 2012, 10:24 PM by Urban Planning Coalition SJSU

Dear Fellow MUP students,

It's truly been a great year serving as your UPC President and working with the amazing UPC leadership team!

I want to announce that we are currently seeking to fill several UPC positions for the next academic year and invite all of you to consider applying for one of the available board positions.  Many of these positions do not require a large time commitment.  Terms begin July 1st and many of current officers will be around to help transition new officers into their roles.  Attached to this email you'll find the board member application that includes a current list of all positions.  The deadline to submit your application is Wednesday, May 2nd, by 5PM.

The Urban Planning Coalition is a great way to connect with fellow students, alumni, and professionals in the field.  This past year we've really boosted the profile of the UPC and established a number of new relationships with organizations like Oakland Pride and SPUR San Jose.  We've also organized and collaborated on a number of activities and events including:
  • SJSU Urban and Regional Planning Department New Student Orientation Panel and Social Hour: (August 19, 2011)
  • SJSU (PARK)ing Day Event: (Sept 16)
  • Fundraiser at Oakland Pride: (Sept 4)
  • UPC Speaker Series: Plan Bay Area (SB375) Forum: (Oct 3rd)
  • Oakland Cemetary Tour: (Oct 22)
  • Symposium: "The Current State of Planning: Navigating New Roles and Careers in Planning" (Nov 5)
  • Social: East Bay Planners Meet up at Jupiter Bar in Berkeley (Jan 15)
  • Social Event: Nightlife at the CA Academy of Sciences (Feb 9)
  • UPC Speaker Series: A Holistic Approach to TOD’s (Feb 28)
  • Oakland Art Murmur Tour- (March 4).

We do hope you'll consider serving on the board this upcoming year.  If you have questions about what it's like serving in one of these roles, please don't hesitate to contact me or any of the current officers or at admin@theupc.org.

Best Regards,
