Tired of tanning in the
lab? Come out and soak in the sunlight with the UPC. All URBP faculty,
staff, and students (alumni and current) are welcome to join! Feel free
to bring family and friends as well. Feel free to come anytime
between 8am and 5pm. Some food will be provided around lunch time and
feel free to bring your own as well. We also welcome potluck
contributions if you would like to prepare something to share with
others. We will provide the charcoal for grilling at the picnic area. *PLEASE bring your own refillable water bottle* Dogs are allowed on leash. There is a day-use fee for parking so we strongly suggest carpooling.

May 4 BTWD Bag Stuffing Party, Sports Basement Sunnyvale, 10am – 2pm
Join SVBC
at our annual Bike to Work Day bag stuffing party as we prepare the
thousands of bags that will be distributed to Energizer Stations
throughout Santa Clara County. If you’ve attended in the past you know
that stuffing a BTWD musette bag can be as fun and rewarding as

Get out of
that car, throw a leg over that 21-speed mountain bike you used to get

Celebrate
your ride at our Bike to Work Day blowout bash! After your car-free
commute, come party with Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition in the
gleaming San José City Hall Rotunda hosted by the Department of
Transportation. Grab your bike and book it to our Bike Away From Work
Bash for food, beer, and live music. Dress smart - get decked out in
your hottest bike commuter style and show everyone how easy it is to

Yes, indeed, we’ve spied stylish people riding beautiful bikes all over
the Valley and the word is getting out. What’s your bike style? Urban
and edgy? Frills and lace? Prep school classic? Euro sophisticated?
Slouchy chic?
Whatever
your style, wear your finest and strut your stuff at our Bike After
Work Party in San José at City Hall. We’ll have photographers available
to take bike portraits. Say cheese!
May 17 Join SVBC’s team for the Silicon Valley Time Trial Charity Challenge
This
charity event is being hosted in conjunction with the Amgen Tour of
California's professional Time Trial event held in San José. The Time
Trial charity ride will follow the same course as the professional ATOC
cyclists, giving our 400 amateur riders an exclusive opportunity to ride
the same 19.6 mile course that the professional riders will follow
later in the day. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compare

May 18-19 Help SVBC provide valet bicycle parking at Maker Faire, San Mateo County Event Center, various shifts
Valet
Bicycle Parking is one of many ways that SVBC encourages people to bike
to public events and volunteering to park bikes is a ton of fun! Sign up
with some friends and make a date of it. Cyclists arriving at the event
are always happy to see you and fun to talk to. Just a two-hour shift

Month of May Bike Rodeo cowboys and cowgirls needed
SVBC works
with schools to prepare children with the safety knowledge they need to
stay healthy and active by bicycling and walking to school. SVBC needs
volunteers to help students become safer and more skilled riders. For

Port Planning Walking TourFriday, May 3 @ 9 AM–3 PM, Pier 70, Port of San Francisco, SAN FRANCISCO
Join local planners, architects,
developers, students, and other planning professionals on a spectacular walking
tour of the Port of San Francisco along the Embarcadero. We will start at the Pier 70 Mixed Use Development, which features
the new Crane Cove Park and the Historic Core area. Next we head to
AT&T Park, home of the legendary San Francisco Giants, and Pier 48 where
will visit the Mission Rock Project, sponsored by the Giants.
Mission Rock is an innovative mixed-use project that will bring commercial,
residential and retail uses to an underused site. An expansion of Anchor Steam
Brewery will also be housed on the site. We will then enjoy a lunch at the
historic Ferry Building, which in 2010, was honored with an APA Great Places in America Award for Great Urban Space (cost
of lunch not included). From there we will visit the new Exploratorium and
enjoy the presentation “Parking to Development.” We will conclude the day at
the the Cruise Terminal Port with a presentation “Post of San Francisco’s
Development Future—America’s Cup, the Warriors, and SWL 337.” Enjoy panoramic
views of the San Francisco Bay, Treasure Island, and the new Oakland
Bay Bridge while getting an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of
a number of the Port’s existing and planned new Embarcadero facilities. APA
